Cardboard and paper recycling collections

Flattened boxes and clean paper should not be taking up valuable space in a residual waste bin. GRIDCO arranges business cardboard and paper recycling across Newcastle, Northumberland and Teesside, from regular collections to assessment of baled cardboard routes for larger volumes.

A practical cardboard collection plan
Retail stockrooms, warehouses and offices produce different grades and quantities of paper packaging. Tell us the weekly volume, delivery pattern and available storage. Flattening boxes can improve storage, but keep materials dry and away from contamination while you wait for collection.
Wet, greasy or heavily food-contaminated board may not meet the collector's specification. Remove unrelated packaging as instructed and describe coated, laminated or specialist paper products separately. Confidential documents should use a secure shredding route, not open paper recycling.
Loose cardboard or a baler?
Loose collection may suit modest volumes without the space or staffing for machinery. For a steady stream of clean material, a cardboard baler might reduce storage volume and collection movements. Suitability depends on throughput, bale size, safe handling, power and the receiving operator's requirements.
Baling is not automatically cheaper. Compare equipment hire, consumables, staff time, maintenance, bale handling and collection costs. Any rebate depends on material quality, quantity, haulage and market conditions; GRIDCO does not guarantee a payment for cardboard.
Paper separation rules and collection evidence
England's Simpler Recycling guidance normally requires paper and card to be collected separately from plastic, metal and glass. Co-collection can be allowed where the collector completes the required written assessment. Ask which arrangement your proposed service uses and label containers accordingly.
Quotes depend on whether material is loose or baled, its quality, volume, frequency and access. Every waste collection job gets a waste transfer note, and every commercial customer gets a monthly waste report every month. Accurate descriptions make it easier to check whether the service is reducing unnecessary residual waste.
