Garden waste removal and green waste collections

A seasonal tidy-up or landscaping job can generate more green waste than a household garden bin can hold. GRIDCO arranges garden waste removal across Newcastle, Northumberland and Teesside, with the material and access checked before a suitable operator is booked.

Covering Newcastle, Northumberland and Teesside from our base in Blyth.
Keep green waste separate from landscaping rubble
Grass cuttings, leaves, hedge trimmings and branches may be suitable for a green waste route. Soil, turf, stones, fencing, plant pots and paving are different materials and should be described separately. A pile that looks like garden waste can contain heavy or treated materials that change how it must be collected.
Tell us the approximate branch sizes and whether tree stumps or roots are included. Do not burn or shred suspect material just to reduce the pile. Acceptance depends on the operator and the receiving composting or treatment facility.
Garden clearances for homes and businesses
We can discuss one-off household green waste collections, property clearances and grounds-maintenance waste from commercial premises. Contractors' gardening waste is business waste, even if the work took place in a domestic garden. Do not assume a household recycling centre or council bin accepts a contractor's load.
For workplace garden waste, England's recycling guidance requires recycling or composting where it delivers the best environmental outcome. Tell us whether you need just the green waste removed or a mixed garden clearance including sheds, furniture or fencing. These need different loading and disposal plans.
Prepare for a garden waste quote
Photograph the whole pile and explain whether it is loose, bagged or spread across the garden. Wet cuttings and soil can be much heavier than their volume suggests. Narrow paths, steps, locked side gates and long carries affect loading time and staffing.
Suspected invasive plants need specialist advice before handling or moving. Do not mix Japanese knotweed or other controlled plant material into ordinary green waste. Every waste collection job gets a waste transfer note, and every commercial customer receives a monthly waste report every month.
What we can assess
- Grass cuttings and leaves subject to acceptance
- Hedge trimmings and declared branches
- Separated green waste from garden clear-outs
- Commercial grounds-maintenance waste by arrangement
Not accepted, or needs separate arrangements
- Invasive plants in ordinary green waste loads
- Soil, rubble and turf unless separately agreed
- Treated timber, plastics and chemicals mixed with vegetation
What to tell us for a quote
- Postcode and photos of all waste
- Whether soil, turf, roots or timber are included
- Branch size, approximate quantity and bagging
- Access route, steps and carrying distance
Included with our waste services
Every job includes a waste transfer note.
Commercial customers also receive a waste report every month.
Equipment supplied on a hire-only basis is not a waste collection. Waste transfer notes apply to waste collection jobs, not hire-only delivery.
Garden waste removal FAQs
Can soil go with grass and hedge cuttings?
Do not assume so. Soil, turf and stones change the weight and receiving route. Declare them separately so the operator can specify the right collection.
Can you take waste left by my gardener?
Tell us who produced the waste and what it contains. Waste from a gardening business is business waste and needs an appropriate commercial route.
Can Japanese knotweed go in a garden waste collection?
No. Suspected invasive plant material needs specialist assessment and handling. Do not cut, bag or transport it under ordinary garden waste instructions.
Do you remove sheds as part of garden waste removal?
A dismantled shed is not green waste. Tell us about timber, roofing and any suspect asbestos so a separate clearance scope can be assessed.
